Athletics Hall of Fame By-Laws
The Garden
City High School (GCHS) Athletics Hall of Fame exists to recognize and honor
Garden City High School student-athletes, coaches, teams and sports
contributors for their achievements and/or contribution to the Garden City High
School athletic program.
It is
recognized that Garden City High School is the lone school to be considered for
these honors.
Hall of
Fame Committee
The GCHS
Athletic Director will serve as the permanent Chairman.
The Committee
will have a minimum of 5 members with a maximum of 9.
The
composition of the Committee will be the Chairman, up to 3 women and up to 3
men graduates of GCHS and up to two at-large members, one to be selected by
GCHS and one by a vote of the other elected committee members.
Members of the
Committee shall serve an initial term of three (3) years, and members may
succeed themselves. Half of the original Committee members will be up for
re-election after the 3-year first term and those will be determined by the
Chairman. The remaining members will be elected in alternating years. In each
election cycle, there will be either one (1) or two (2) male/female members
elected.
Consideration
shall also be given to a representative of the GCHS Booster Club, but that
appointment will be at the discretion of the Chairman.
If a Committee
member is nominated to the Hall of Fame, they shall be excused from the
discussion and the voting of the potential Inductees.
Nomination
Process
Athlete: An Athlete may be eligible for nomination into the GCHS Athletic
Hall of Fame after ten (10) years following graduation from GCHS.
Teams: Any team may be eligible for nomination into the GCHS Athletic
Hall of Fame after ten (10) years in which their team is being nominated.
Coach: A Coach may be eligible for nomination into the GCHS Athletic
Hall of Fame at least after (5) years of retirement from coaching at the
school.
Sports
Contributor: A Sports Contributor eligible
for nomination as an individual or group who has helped to develop and foster
growth in the GCHS athletic community. Any GCHS athlete, coach, community
member or group who has had a significant impact on the community may also be
eligible for nomination.
Special
Nominees
Under unique
circumstances, the GCHS Athletic Hall of Fame Committee has the ability to
waive the number of years' requirement and/or graduation requirement with 2/3
vote of the Committee. The following athletes, coaches, teams and sports
contributor candidates shall be eligible for nomination:
* Selected
into any national hall of fame
* Achieved a
world record
* Has
participated in the Olympics, World Games, representing the United States
* Played for
or won an amateur national championship or professional championship on a team
or as an individual
Nomination
Process
# Nominations
for consideration into the GCHS Athletic Hall of Fame may be made by Committee
members or by public nominations. Applications for nomination will be made
available at the GCHS athletic office or online at the GCHS athletic website (www.gckschools.com).
The Committee
will determine the number of inductees in the inaugural class, with the
following criteria to be implemented in future years:
# - Athletes:
Up to five (5)
# - Coaches:
Up to two (2)
# - Teams: No
more than one (1)
# - Sports
Contributors: No more than one (1)
Note: The number of inductees can be less than the maximum in any given
year. There is no requirement that all categories will be represented in an
annual induction ceremony.
Nomination/Election
Procedures
* Once
nominated, nominations shall remain on the list for three (3) years. After
three (3) years, those not selected will be placed on an inactive list and are
eligible to be re-nominated.
* A quorum of
the Committee must be present to vote on the inductees. All voting will be done
on a majority basis (50 percent +1).
* Revisions to
the by-laws shall be voted on in November of each calendar year. Revisions
shall be passed with a 2/3 vote of the entire Committee.
