Bill Wilson - Head Coach (620) 640-1297

Coach Wilson started his coaching career back in 1979. He began coaching as a graduate assistant at Emporia State University and was also the American Legion coach in Emporia from 1981-84. In 1985, GCHS fielded its inaugural baseball team, and Coach Wilson came to Garden City to accept his first high school coaching job. During his 10 years as coach, the Buffalos won six regional championships and a #1 state ranking in 1992. The 1992 team garnered a 20-1 record and a #1 seed entering the state tournament that year. The '92 team was ranked 14th in the country by the National High School Baseball Coaches Association.

From 1995-97 Coach Wilson served as head coach at Lakeland High School in Lakeland Florida. His team finished with a 21-4 record in 1996 and was awarded the District 8 Coach of the Year. From 2001-03 Coach Wilson was the head coach at Holcomb High School.

Coach Wilson's playing days included three years at Emporia State University from 1971-74 which included a 21-9 record as a starter for the Hornets. After completing his junior year at ESU, Coach Wilson was drafted in the 15th round of the major league draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Coach Wilson played three years in the Dodger organization before being traded to the Angels organization making it to the Triple A level his last two seasons.

Anthony Ortiz – Assistant Coach

Coach Ortiz is a Garden City native.  He graduated from Garden City High School in 1996 and graduated from Newman University in 2007. Coach Ortiz played football and baseball for the Buffaloes from 1992-1995.  Coach Ortiz is married and has three kids. Coach Ortiz is looking forward to a great 2015 season.
